Cement Production in India in January-October 2020 Down by 16 % YoY

Indian enterprises produced 236.33 million tons in January-October 2020, down by 16 % compared to January-October 2019. The volume of cement production in October 2020 amounted to 26.94 million tons, which is 2.8 % more than in October last year. Compared to September of this year, cement production in October increased by 11.2 %.

In August 2020, the volume of production was behind that of August by 14.6 %, in May — by 22 %. In April 2020, the volume of cement production in India was almost six times lower than in the same month in 2019, only 4.3 million tons.

The main reason for the sharp decline in production in April was the suspension of all large industrial enterprises in India. The decision was made by the country's government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19 and took effect on March 25.

Since the end of April, Indian factories have gradually resumed operations.
