The Uzbek company, Energy X Group plans to build an MSW processing plant to provide 60 % of the processed products to cement enterprises for use as alternative fuel in the clinker production process.
Energy X Group will collect, transport and sort municipal waste. Thanks to the advanced processing technology, the waste is also planned to be used for biogas production.
Investors expect to complete the project in 2025, and the amount of investments is estimated at EUR 40 million. In the future, investors expect to be able export the recycled waste abroad (including Europe).
With the participation of the Syrdarya region administration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Energy X Group is currently in the process of attracting a new co-investror, an Italian company specializing in the development of such projects.
Meanwhile, representatives of the regional administration choose a 30h site for a future waste processing plant, and study the prospects of introducing new tariffs for waste treatment in the region.
Last year, the state-owned Strategy for Solid Waste Management for the Period 2019–2028 was adopted in Uzbekistan.
In late April, the government of the republic announced support measures for the construction industry in the amount of 3.6 trillion soums ($353.3 million). About 40 % of the funds will be allocated for the construction of infrastructure facilities, including public utilities.
