Russia Further Increases Cement Production and Consumption

In February, Russia continued to increase production and consumption of cement. The market volume for the first two months showed to be almost 7% higher YoY. Shipments by rail in January-February increased by 5.5% — to 2.8 million tons. The data was provided by the Russian association of cement producers ‘Soyuzcement’.

The first month of 2020 was 8% better than Jan-2019 with a 2.5-million-tons cement output. The North Caucasus became the leader with a production growth of 50%. The growth was also noted in the Far East (+20%), North-West (+17%), Central (+16%) and Volga (+11%) federal districts. The only two regions to show a decrease in production were the Southern federal district(-10%) and the Urals (-2%).

The total volume of construction work in Russia grew by 1% YoY, to 31 billion rubles.

Soyuzcement cites data from the Ministry of Economic Development, promising a total 4.2% increase in the volume of construction work over 2020. The authors of the review predict an increase in cement production in 2020 by 2-6% higher than in 2019.

In 2019, Russian enterprises produced 57.8 million tons of cement (7.7% more than in 2018). Consumption reached 57.8 million tons — an 8% increase. Cement imports decreased by 6.4% over the year, to 1.4 million tons. Export grew over the year by 9.6%, to 1.1 million tons.
