According to specialists from the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (TUD), a significant increase in the cost of building materials in the country requires prompt response.
TUD specialists carried out selective monitoring of prices for a number of goods in this area. Its results showed that the cost of many building materials has increased significantly over the past six months. In particular, facts were recorded of price increases for certain items over the past six months by 70–90%.
The study of this issue has shown that the main reason is the rise in world prices. TUD believes that it is necessary to take prompt response measures at the Government level in order to saturate the domestic market with necessary products and make it more accessible, as well as to analyze in detail the situation at the plants of the construction industry and develop measures to support them in the current situation. Today, as a result of rising prices for building materials, the actual cost of the facilities being built increases, while the contract price remains the same. This leads to the washing out of the working capital of enterprises. Trade unions held additional consultations with interested departments on these issues.
