Armenia increased cement production in January-May by 33.9 % YoY, up to 225,000 tons. Cement imports in 5M 2020 decreased by 41.5 % YoY, to 68,000 tons, as per the National Statistical Committee of Armenia.
The volume of cement produced in May alone amounted to 77,200 tons, indicating growth of 55.3 % YoY and 30.6 % MoM. Imports in May amounted to 22,300 tons (down by 38 % YoY).
The export of Armenian cement in 2020 completely ceased, and in 5M 2019 it amounted to only 22 tons.
Due to the quarantine restrictions imposed by the government to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus Armenian cement enterprises had to cease operations from March 16 to April 14 this year.
Two integrated cement plants operate in the country — Araratcement and Hrazdan Cement. There also are several grinding plants supplying local developers with cement made from imported clinkers.
